"John, just shut up and listen!" I glanced behind me at the open pit in the middle of the warehouse.
Deep inside that pit lay a massive creature looking to destroy everything I'd ever cared about. We'd gotten ourselves in over our heads but at the moment we were the only people who could do anything about it. John, Carl, and I were the only ones that knew; the only ones that would believe it. Moloch, the sun god wanted to destroy the city so that he could rise in power again.
"It's too crazy. Let's back out and come back with a plan." Carl spoke against it but he was holding John back; stopping him from stopping me.
I shook my head, "This IS the plan. He needs unwilling sacrifices or the spell will backfire. He needs people who don't want to die. This is the only way."
"Let me!" John struggled against his brothers hold, "Let me go in your place!"
The ground beneath us began to shake, pieces of wall bending and contorting as the weight of the roof combined with the growing heat wore down at it's strength. I stepped aside as a massive steel pole fell where I had been standing.
"You can't. It has to be me. These things are terrible, and must be fought. You and your brother are the only people that can do it." I turned toward the pit.
"That's a bullshit excuse! Why do you have such a death wish?! I thought you were smarter than that!"
I didn't tell him about the doctors visit. Maybe Carl would later on. I was dying anyway, I had maybe a month left. It was like I'd been conditioned for this role; created by god to serve specific purpose. My wife was a horrible mess over it. My daughter tried her best to stay strong, Emma was like that. A fighter and crazy smart, two things I couldn't have expected.
"See you guys later."
"Let me go, Carl!" I could hear him fighting behind me as I approached the pit, "Alex! I'll make sure of it! I swear on my life that we'll see each other again. I'll do whatever it takes!"
"I'll see you then." If John said he was going to bring me back then I wasn't sure if there was anything that could stop him. He'd break vows he made and beliefs he held without blinking to get what he wanted. It was almost scary, because there wasn't often a time when he didn't deliver.
But this was the real world, and it was cruel.
I dropped into the pit. As I felt my flesh burn away, I knew that I was screaming for help but it was involuntary. In my mind I knew that I had to do this. To save everyone I had to sacrifice myself. The pain was unbelievable and lasted for what seemed like ages.
And then . . . silence, painlessness, weightlessness, loneliness.
"Alex Kayser." A voice, followed by a person. A tall man wearing an expensive suit with eyes that seemed ageless.
I couldn't respond. I had no voice.
"Don't worry I know what you'd ask. I am Patrick Bernauw, better known as death to humans."
What could I do but listen?
"I have the important task of putting people where they belong. I do this sort of thing for everyone but most don't get a choice. You do."
A choice. To make. A choice, to make without a mind.
"You can either be dead and enter the nothingness. You'll no longer have anything; you'll cease to exist. Or you could be changed into a Walking Soul and then you can help me save the entire world. Of course the only stipulation is that you cannot return to your realm. You'd be stuck within the Other Lands until I called you."
I'd already made my choice.
"The Other Lands run on a different time frame than normal reality, so if one of your friends does try to bring you back to life than four years to them could turn into thousands for you. You wouldn't age, but it is a really long time. Trust me. So be sure."
I was sure.
"Good choice. Be prepared."
The world flew into focus and I found myself high above the ground falling rapidly. Down below a huge battle was raging and I was headed right for the middle. I hit the ground so hard that it shook, but was unhurt. Probably because of Patrick, or rather Death. In front of me stood a man. He had dark hair and a scar that ran from his neck, through his left eye, and cut into his ear.
"Who the hell are you?!?"
"I'm Alex." I stood, my head spinning, "Where am I?"
"In the wrong place," He leaped around me and gunned down a creature that had a black bag over his head, "My name is Jason and you need to run or pick up a weapon."
I looked toward where he was shooting and my breath caught; Thousands of those black bagged creatures were flowing over the landscape toward us. I felt my panic rise and I turned to run.
What the hell was going on?

Take a look!
I've started a new blog everyone.
I've already begun work on a novel and I'll be posting weekly chapters on the new blog for everyone to read until I'm finished writing. Here's a bit of what it's about:
Now, this doesn't mean that I'm finished with Unusual Circumstances or Obviam Vita. In fact they may be updated more often then usual.
I so hope you enjoy it and I'll catch you people later.

I've already begun work on a novel and I'll be posting weekly chapters on the new blog for everyone to read until I'm finished writing. Here's a bit of what it's about:
Jason Brand is new to town and hates it. Due to an angry outburst in an argument with his father he discovers something that changes everything.
In no time he's teamed up with Gretta (a girl from school) and investigating the hidden past of Ulster County and the even more unusual present. Suddenly a secret is revealed that puts him right in the middle of the maelstrom and he'll have to adjust because one thing is becoming increasingly clear . . .
This is his home now. Please give the entire first chapter a read through and let me know what you think. If you like it then share it and all that jazz.
Now, this doesn't mean that I'm finished with Unusual Circumstances or Obviam Vita. In fact they may be updated more often then usual.
I so hope you enjoy it and I'll catch you people later.

220: I am Animus -Sara-
"It will be okay. It was just a dream."
I stood near a bed, on which sat a small girl with tears in her eyes. The speaker stood nearby; a tall man with striking features and ageless eyes. Where was I? I had tried to possess that Arabic girl and then this.
"Patrick," She started to wail louder, "They wouldn't allow me on the boat! The rain was coming down in torrents and I was gonna drown, but no one wanted me on board. They told me I wasn't one of them. they said that I was just a tool to be used and discarded."
"She couldn't get on because I enjoyed watching her squirm." A voice to my side made me turn. Standing there was a nearly identical little girl, though this one seemed very different and dark.
"What's going on here?"
"That's not important. You should keep watching, because I know what you are now and there's something you should know." I found her smile disturbing as she turned toward the bed again.
"Saba, I'm sorry." Patrick sat down next to her and pulled her close, "I wish I could give you words of comfort."
"I'm not like them am I?"
Patrick shook his head, "You're not, and when the time comes you will be left behind."
"But why?" Her voice came out in a whine and the tears started again, "I don't want to be left behind. I want to be like everyone else."
The man named Patrick actually had tears in his eyes, "I'm going to be left behind as well. Neither of us will last, we're not meant too. Humans are forever and we're not."
"But . . . but I feel human." I was tiring of hearing the girl whine, but without knowing how to escape I could only sit and watch.
"I know. You need to understand that you're a copy, and one day you'll no longer exist," Patrick looked into her eyes and smiled, "but that doesn't make us any less important. The humans need our help, now more than ever."
"Why am I important?" She looked up at him, slowly calming down.
"You remember the story of Gilfred?"
She nodded.
"There are only four known beings like that, do you remember?"
She nodded again, "The Human Race, Gilfred, Animus, and Mardockt. Mardockt was made by Gilfred and is a bad, bad man, he's who we're trying to stop. Gilfred and Animus have been around forever. Animus is the power of the mind."
"Well, a long time ago, there was only three which lead Gilfred to decide to create Mardockt. The human race is unable to take direct action before a threat presents itself so the only being that could stop Gilfred was Animus."
Animus. Why did that name sound so familiar? Beside me I heard the dark one giggle.
"Here's where it gets good, keep listening." She stepped backwards into the darkness and I turned to watch the events that were taking place.
"Are these your memories?" I heard no response.
"Animus could tell that Gilfred shouldn't being doing it so she stood up against him by creating several armies; An army of fairy-folk, an army of Angels, and the army of the Cubi. To the fairies she gave great magical prowess, to the Angels she gave varying abilities centering around something human or natural, and to the Cubi she gave the gift of charm and politics. When she had finished, Gilfred was nearly done. She swept in with her armies, laying waste to whatever Gilfred put in her way."
My head began to hurt as I got a flash of standing above a sea of creatures, all armed and ready to do my biding. I shook it away and kept watching.
"I remember this part, can I tell it?" The girl smiled and rubbed her red eyes, "Gilfred knew the armies were strong, so to stop them he gave them each fatal weaknesses, that allowed them to be overcome easily. Fairies were suddenly able to be killed using their names, angel's abilities were sealed away, and the Cubi had to consume living energy to survive. Animus was defeated and she vanished, never to be heard from again. When Mardockt was created, Gilfred realized that she had been right so he contained Mardockt away and unsealed the Angel's powers so that they could be Mardockt's guardians until he found a way to destroy him."
I fell to my knees. Another flash and I was stepping up to an old man. He turned with a surprised yell and I felt myself tear into millions of pieces. I shook my head and tried to ignore the pain.
"Animus did get to Gilfred. She was going to stop him and since Animus couldn't be destroyed Gilfred did the only thing he knew would help. He destroyed her body."
No. No no no. I grabbed my head as pain seared across it.
"Gilfred needed a place to contain her so he put pieces of her into each human and over time those pieces broke down and were passed on through the generations. Now every human alive has a small bit of Animus within them, one could call it memory but that's a very basic way of describing it."
I was Animus. I knew that now.
"But this doesn't make me important."
"It makes you very important. You don't have a piece of Animus within you. To her, you're an empty shell, a body that she can use to collect the rest of herself when she awakens."
I knew something was off with that Arabic bitch. Now I knew where I was and I smiled. I would no longer need to jump from body to body. I could just kill them and go to the next human with a piece. I was unstoppable now. I started to laugh but stopped as I looked down at my hand. I could not move my fingers. I felt my breath quicken in terror.
"Sadly, you aren't human. You're a copy, made by me to contain her indefinitely. She'll find herself unable to exert her control and she'll fall into a deep slumber until she's needed. Without you she'll go on killing constantly, so in a way you are the human's defense against her."
I heard laughter next to me and looked at the dark eyes of the young girl, "I don't want to go to sleep. Help me."
"You won't. I'm a flawed experiment. Normally, you fall into a slumber," She laughed and I felt dread in my heart, "but with me you'll simply be unable to do anything . . . except feel . . . as you spend years and years under my blade."
She pulled a knife from behind her back and approached smiling.
This was worse than being incomplete.

203: Guilt -Andrew-
The streets of the city were torture to walk through. Everything reminded me of my wife and child, the victims of my warped mind. Every noise brought back a memory that I wish I could forget. but knew that I didn't want to.
The others had been very clear about where they wanted me. They wanted me anywhere but near them, and Carl had been the one to make it the clearest. I winced as I lightly touched my bruised face. I deserved their scorn; I deserved more than I'd gotten.
"Sir, are you alright?" It was a young nun that had just walked from a nearby church.
"I'll never be okay, Sister. Better you just leave me alone.", I continued walking.
"God can help." She caught up to me and grabbed my sleeve, "Come inside and talk to me."
"God . . . ", my mind settled back on the memories of Hell. I could almost feel the amounts of pain I had endured again as I remembered the whips and brands, "God has no place for me. I've done so much. I've ruined so many lives. I destroyed people I care about just to feel better."
"They'll forgive you, and so will God." She put her hand on my shoulder, halting me.
"What if some of them can't forgive me?" I fell to the steps of the church and put my face in my hands, "Not long ago, this didn't bother me. I used to be able to forget about the guilt. I could ignore the pain."
She sat down next to me.
"But I can't anymore. Now the guilt and pain floods my soul, it reminds me of their faces and compares them to better times. A constant reminder that I did it to them and that I can never go back. I can never undo what I did. Forever I'll be haunted by this pain."
"That's part of the glory of being human. God gave us guilt so we could learn how to treat others." She turned my face toward hers, "Maybe God gave you back your guilt so you can return to him; so you can stop treating others the way you have."
"Sister, I don't mean to be rude, but if there was a God than he'd have done something already. The only person that gave me back my guilt was myself. Don't talk as though you understand! You've never killed anyone."
She paused as though not sure what to say. She smiled and grasped my hand while standing, "Come inside with me. Maybe I can show you God's forgiveness and help you move on."
I was pulled to my feet and directed to the front doors. I hesitated before stepping over the threshold, because I was scared of being smote for entering God's house.
The doors closed behind me and the young nun turned to me, "I am Sister Victoria, and I'd like to welcome you to The Hicks Church of Christ."
Something told me this was a bad idea, but I was desperate. I needed to get rid of this pain that filled me. I pushed the feeling aside and followed Sister Victoria deeper in to the church.

175: Flashback; New Found Purpose -Melissa- (by Crystal Ferguson)
My sweet, sweet Qaliphus was now dead, and all because he felt the need to save this child. A child who had no business being outside. A child who knew better than to be in the road. A child who should have been in the house, under the supervision of his parents--
The parents.
If they were more attentive, their child would not be dead. More importantly, if not for their neglect, Qaliphus would still be alive. My dream would have become a blossoming reality instead of this shattered mess before me.
I clenched my fists in anger, tears streaming down my cheeks. Filthy humans. Weren't the adults suppose to be more responsible than this? What was the point of them existing if they did not protect their younglings?
All I knew in that instant is that they should pay for their ignorance; they didn't deserve to live.
I turned my back to the freshly deceased and zipped my way up and in to the home. The parents were laughing as the remaining two children played mind-numbing video games. How infuriating.
While they distracted themselves with mindless laughter, I took the liberty of pulling out skewers from a nearby open drawer. They were a tad heavy for my size, but I managed to carry them over to the table, letting them drop with a clatter. The couple looked but quickly shrugged it off, and continued with their conversation.
I picked one skewer up and with all my might, I thrust the sharpened end in and through the adult male’s neck. The female screamed in horror as her husband collapsed, gasping for air. She bent over him, her face stricken in panic. I swooped up the second skewer and shoved it downward, repeating the process for the adult female. She too fell over, noises of helplessness gushing out from her lungs. Both husband and wife flailed from the sudden impacts. After a few minutes passed, both became silent and unmoving.
Feeling justified in my act, I immediately left the bodies behind. As I flew away from the house, I heard the cries of their children as they found the dead parents. Some day they would thank me for freeing them from such negligence. They deserved better parents than that.
As I dashed through the outside world, a boy caught my attention. I came to a stop and hid behind a nearby leaf. An adult male was yelling at him, beating him down with his own fists.
“You worthless sack of shit!“, another fist hit the child, “When in the Hell are you going to man up, boy?! Huh, Carl?!”
The man shoved him, spitting at the ground afterward. He grunted and turned to leave him there. The boy just sat there, his head hanging low.
Such treatment sickened me. Were all adults truly this evil? What in the name of all that is human did children do to deserve such consequence? To my knowledge, children were far more innocent and harmless than that of the adults. They needed someone to protect them; not hurt them.
It was then that I vowed to stop this madness at all costs.

169: Shattered And Reformed, Similarities Bond -Ben-
Right there behind my eyelids the scene replayed in high definition slow motion. Over and over again I saw the child's head explode, and felt the warmth of her blood splatter against my face and body. My choice ended her life. My choice turned me into a monster.
The repeating horror pushed me into a small place deep in my mind, and from there I watched as I began my assault on Andrew. I should have felt bad, I should have stopped myself from desecrating that young girl's body, but I didn't. I could feel the rage, even this far gone. I felt the killing instinct explode as I stopped caring about whether he could breathe.
The anger didn't help get rid of the pain. I had brutally murdered a young girl. Nothing could bring her back. Her parents would never see her again.
"Mardockt." A voice in my head filled my stomach with sickness.
I fell to my hands and knees as my breakfast found its way to the floor in front of me. I had become what my uncle had told me I would. A complete monster. I was just like him. I felt right in killing that girl. I still felt that I was right, but I knew it was wrong. I should have sat there, I should have done something else. Anything else.
"Ben, it's all right.", a voice pierced through my thoughts. Saba's voice.
"No! Leave me alone! I'm sickening. I'm disgusting." I spun and swung my fist toward her face.
I felt the impact and waited for retribution but it never came. She opened her arms and hugged me. I pushed away, but failed because of my sickened and weakened body.
"Stop! I'm . . . Stop."
"Ben, I've killed many, many people. I killed them with no reason besides my own greed. I crave the feel of blood and violence, but that isn't you."
I tried to fight some more. The slickness of the blood beneath us seemed to make it harder for me to fight against her grasp.
"You didn't make her die. This doesn't make you a monster, Ben. You saved my life and probably countless others. In my whole life, I've never saved a single life. I've never saved, only destroyed. I am a monster Ben."
"But I did this, what if it's stuck in me?! What if this horrid feeling never leaves? This dirt and grime that I can't see but fills me with self hate?! What if I break one day, what if I follow in his footsteps?!"
"I won't let that happen. I'll kill you before you destroy yourself."
The tears came suddenly, and I wrapped my arms around Saba. My face on her chest, I let the emotions flood forth. It wasn't the good Saba that held me close till my tears slowed. It was the Saba that lusted for blood. An understanding had formed between us.
I looked into her eyes, "Do you promise to kill me if I go that far?"
She nodded, "I promise."
The repeating horror pushed me into a small place deep in my mind, and from there I watched as I began my assault on Andrew.

168: Abhorian -Carl-
I'd never in my life seen anything like what had come through the door. In my time I'd faced against giant crabs, the ghost of a doll, and a swarm of zombie children, but I'd never seen something like this.
As the smoke from the remains of the door faded, I found myself looking at a very tall, shadowy creature. It stood on two partially bent legs and had massive arms, with fingers as long as I am tall. The more I stared at it the more frightful I became of it.
"An Abhorian?", Melissa hissed as she pointed at Christina, "Can't your kind ever kill something dead?"
"This is different.", I could hear the surprise in Christina's voice as she stuttered, "I thought we had."
I didn't take my eyes off the creature that stood in the doorway studying us silently.
"I hate to interrupt your obvious surprise, but I don't know what this thing is."
"An Abhorian is a lower beast that feeds on fear. It's commo-"
"Oh, shut up!", Melissa interrupted Christina, "It's the monster in the closet, under the bed, in the dark, et cetera. The more you look at it, the more it fills you with fear. They don't usually become strong enough to be physical. I guess the door is doing something to it."
Christina gave Melissa a dirty look and then slid Andrew's sword over to me, "Just, don't look at it and you'll be fine."
The beast let out a roar and charged.

166: Other Land Survivor -Christina-
I shook my head as a voice from my past faded into nothing. The world was so different now, something new; where humans could stand against Gods in one on one battle and survive.
The door had spit out another creature from the Other Lands, but I was surprised when I found it to be a human male. Since when did humans gain control of the outer realms? The guy I was fighting before moved to attack this man from the door, who easily side kicked the attacker to the side.
"Pathetic. I've seen rodents make better attacks." He laughed.
My mind raced, remembering what me and Patrick had been looking for before he locked me away. I remember what we'd found out.
"Christina! We have to find these anomalies, one of them could be his!" Patrick's voice echoed through my mind.
Soon that voice was replaced with horror and disgust as we found out the truth, "Oh God Christina . . . we have to stop him. We have to find the anomaly before he does, everything depends on us."
This person in front of me now had come from the Other Lands, just like the anomaly would have. He's fearless, just like what is predicted from the anomaly, but something was off. There was no good coming from him. What had happened while I was sleeping?
As he stepped away from the door I realized that I was in a room full of anomalies: A fairy that survived the great war, a walking toy, a man with enough strength to stand against a God, and me, a God with the ability to see things others could not. What had Patrick done while I was sleeping?
The man turned toward me, "You. Are you planning on attacking me too? A wee little girl like you should just stay back and watch me work."
Ah, rage. It washes away thought and rationality and replaces it with raw power, the kind of power I now used to bash this man's disrespectful mouth in.
My fist collided with his face and I felt bones break. His face resembled a crushed grape as he fell, and I closed my eyes so I didn't see blood. A sudden pain in my side opened my eyes, revealing a light from behind me slowly fading away and the man's body disintegrating. Looking down I saw a sword sticking out of my chest.
"So, you've got moves," somehow the man was back from the dead again, "but you can still die. Now just lie still like a good dog while you bleed out."
I grunted as I pulled away, yanking the sword from my body. Breathing heavy I spun around to deliver a kick to his stomach. He stepped back to avoid it.
"Surprised I'm alive? As long as this door exists, I'll just keep coming back. Do you know why?" He sneered.
"Why?" I was bleeding out, this wasn't good.
"Someone up here fears me." He attacked.
The world sure has changed.

Entry 145: Fame and Fear -Nick-
"We need to get these people out of the way!"
It turns out that just getting to the museum would take a lot of time. The second the three of them had stepped out of the building they had been surrounded by news reporters and large groups of people.
"Can't you just make us invisible or something?", Will yelled over the crowds of people.
When Crystal and I ran out of the room, Will had been close behind. Even though he wasn't my favorite person, he was very persistent and had somehow gotten more information than any of the reporters here. I quickly waved to Crystal to head back in to the hotel. With great effort we shut the doors behind us, and fell to the floor in exhaustion.
"I am not the most experienced of Warlocks. I only know a few spells and I'm not even good at them."
Will raised an eyebrow and frowned, "So, you're useless to the group then?", his gaze shifted to Crystal, "Why is he even here?"
I really didn't like this guy, he's very condescending and annoying. I almost missed the response Crystal gave because I was running through my head as to how to get to the museum.
"Eventually he'll be stronger, and that's what scares me." Crystal’s voice was very low and she kept looking in another direction from mine.
My thoughts halted, I stared at her in surprise, "You're scared of me? What did I ever do to scare you?"
"For one, you killed that man on the plane."
"He was a serious threat. If I had left him like that, he would have killed us all. I was protecting my friends, and I don't regret doing that. I wish that maybe we could have helped him but we had no time, and he was too strong." Truthfully, I regretted taking the man’s life even if he was dangerous, but I had to weigh the choices. Either I regret killing a man, or I regret letting him kill so many people; including my friends.
Looking at the way Crystal was avoiding looking at me, I could tell there was more, but before I could ask Will interrupted, "So, I might have missed something, but why do we need to get to the museum if we were told to stay here?"
"The Door Of The Dead is a dangerous mythical object of ancient Egypt. It's supposed to allow a person to speak to the dead, but that isn't what it does. Basically, it reaches out and finds someone’s worst fear, then it changes reality to make it true."
Will looked puzzled but to my surprise quickly accepted what I had said, "So, why hasn't it been activated until now, and how could the ancient Egyptians have mistaken it for a way to speak to the dead?"
"All I know is that it mimics the voices of dead people you know to lure you close. I can't remember anything else. Everything is foggy since I blacked out. Like there's memories that are hiding away."
I didn't mistake the fear in Crystal’s eyes.

Entry 144: Merlin's Power -Nick-
"How could you have someone check my background?!" Yeah, I guess I was yelling, but I felt betrayed.
"I don't trust you!", Crystal stood up and pointed to the door.
"Everything that's happened since I was a zombie has somehow had something to do with you. You threatened me, brought me back to life, and killed a man in cold blood. You don't explain to us why. You just do!"
Will raised his hand in the air, "Okay, maybe it's because I'm new to this; but in the realm of sanity it's impossible to bring someone back from the dead, and it's often well accepted that being a zombie is permanent."
"This is of no concern to y-", I felt something hit my chest and I was lifted off my feet. The world around me grew dark and a very old man was standing there looking down at me. Pulling myself to my feet I looked around for Crystal and Will, only to find no one except me and this old man.
"It's been quite a long time, and you haven't aged a bit my friend." The old man bowed his head.
"Who are you? What did you do to the people I was with?", I pulled myself to my feet.
The old man looked confused for a moment and then smiled wildly, "You unbelievable child! You did it. You really did it!"
He walked over to me and began squinting at me and tilting his head to angles that would normally be impossible.
"Did what? What are you going on about?", I stepped away from him.
"Right, you wouldn't know. Maybe I can explain it to you, because it's rather simple. See, I am a very old man and I am also a powerful wizard much like yourself."
"I wouldn't say powerful."
He rapped me on the head with more force than would be expected from someone so frail. "Don't put your magic down, not many people can battle me and survive. Now, while I am very powerful, my magic has been slowly degrading over time. I used to be able to change the Earth’s rotation around the sun, and now all I can do is rotate the Earth on its own axis."
It slowly dawned on me that I was on a completely different level of power than this old man; moving planets through space was something I hadn't even conceived yet. "That's not what I would call losing power."
The old man smiled, "You used to think so. You promised me that one day, you'd find a way to live long with out losing power and you've done it. You've found a way to bring yourself back to when you were at your peak."
"I am not following you."
"I don't have anymore time to explain except to say that you are one of the most unique wizards I'd ever met, so I have decided to give you a gift. I am going to transfer my magical energy to you. Maybe you can find a better use for it."
"Why would you do that?"
"A young girl has murdered me, though I admit she was very bad at it. Anyway, it gave me an excuse to go and do some exploring in other realms. While I'm gone, I need someone to hold on to my abilities and you are as good a candidate as any."
"Umm . . . if she murdered yo-", I was shut up by another smack across the head.
"You know as well as I do that death can be a difficult achievement even for a wizard with very little knowledge. I need you to listen, I don't have much more time. My magic is going to conflict with yours, so you may find yourself having memories that were supposed to be erased."
The space around me began to brighten.
"Wait, who are you?"
"Merlin, of course. Kids these days!" He raised his hands above his head and I was laying on the floor, looking at the faces of Will and Crystal.
Bits and pieces of long forgotten memory came flying back at me, but only one small part stood out from among the rest.
I sat straight up, "We have to go help Ben!"

131: Ignored -Ben-
The convenience of Crystal’s new talent was not lost on any of us, and it made me more than suspicious. Then again, it was just what we needed at the moment, and I know better than to bite the hand that feeds.
"You sure you can do this?"
"Ben, I don't even know how I know this. Just a few weeks ago I was a zombie with minimal intelligence, and now I'm flying a plane. It's kind of startling."
"So we can tell the passengers that everything is going to be okay?"
"No.", Carl tapped my shoulder and I turned around to see the man we'd knocked out, standing.
While nothing about him had changed, something was different; feminine. He was staring intently at Carl and smiling like someone who knew too much. The man knelt and went for his gun.
Carl moved quickly, reaching for the man’s shoulder and arm. Before he could get close enough, the man swung his arm up; smacking Carl in the face. Carl fell back on the ground holding his jaw.
"Be a good boy and stay still.", he looked at Carl and laughed.
He stood up with the gun and slipped it in to the holster, "What a coincidence that the one plane I decided to use was the one you'd be on. A sad coincidence. I told you not to interfere, I told you so long ago."
Carl looked more angry than usual, "Merczel."
I glanced at Carl, "You know him?"
It's very unusual to see a grown man jump up and down clapping his hands with a giddy smile on his face, "You remember! Aw, so sweet."
The man known as Merczel began waving his hands around, "Carl, Carl, Carl. You could have just backed out of this, but of course your crew has to interfere. Like a righteous storm, you descend upon the undeserving and smite them for their sins."
Crystal glances back, "Is there any chance that this could be taken somewhere else? It's getting really cramped in here. All this tension and violence is making it a little difficult to concentrate on keeping all these people ALIVE."
Merczel laughed, "Little girl, these people aren't going to survive. Best you go join the others in the passenger cabin."
I looked at Crystal, "Keep flying, we'll take it somewhere else."
The man had a small fit, "NO! Why does no one ever listen to me?! I said to go with the others! Who the Hell are you to go against my word?!"
Carl leaped up, grasping the guy around his middle and tossing him through the cockpit door. The man rolled on the floor and then leaped to his feet in time to knee Carl in the face. Nick jumped back in surprise, letting a small stream of fire from his hands toward Merczel. Merczel yelped in pain and turned toward Nick in anger.
"WARLOCK!", the man swung his arm swiftly and Nick flew in to the passenger cabin like a discarded toy, "I hate warlocks."
I moved to the passageway between the cockpit and the passenger cabin, "Carl, who is he?"
Merczel pointed toward Carl, "Conversing with warlocks now? Strange things are just attracted to you, huh? Who are these people you're with now? I admit, the girl didn't show any signs of usefulness. Quite a surprise when she coincidentally can fly this type of plane. And whose this idiot?", he pointed to me, "What is he? The boss? What a joke."
Carl stood, wiping blood on his shirt, "Merczel, these people here aren't going to die. My friend in there is going to land this plane and you will have failed. Give up."
Why didn't anyone listen to me? "Carl, who is he?!"
The man stopped smiling, he just stared at Carl. After a few moments he spoke, "You intend to stall my plans?"
Carl looked at Ben and laughed a bit. Then he turned to the man and smiled, "Melissa, I plan on stopping them."
My mind did a quick backtrack. Melissa? What?!

120: The Build Up -Nick-
I'd love to say that we all got off that plane alive. I'd love to tell you a fairy tale and make his memory go on forever; to keep fabricating lies of valiant adventures with him at our side.
I was yelling to him to come with me, to get off while he could. I can still remember the face he gave me. He knew. He knew that the people wouldn't survive if he came with us. I had to leave him, leave him to be consumed by the flames.
If only I had a bit more experience behind me, then I could have helped him. What kind of person does that? What kind of person gives everything to help a few people?
By now you are wondering who did this act of heroism. Who helped us all survive unscathed? You're running the names of the only people it could be, using the clues that I've littered through out my words.
But he's a hero. He will never be forgotten. He fought to save the world from Gods, only to die at the hands of man. Who am I speaking about? It's useless to hide it.
This is the final tale of Carl Miller.

108: All Night -Saba-
I woke up to a heavy weight on my stomach. As my eyes adjusted to the light, I saw the black haired head of Carl sleeping on my stomach.
"He's been there since the surgery."
Looking to my left I saw Crystal sitting in a chair nearby. There were bruises all up and down her arms and across her face, but she otherwise looked fine. When she moved, the pain was very evident in her face. "Which one are you?"
I felt different. I wasn't having the dark thoughts I used to, but I wasn't all flowers and posies either. I was confused about myself, about everything. The last thing I remembered was both parts of me wanting to save Crystal, and then failing. Everything after was a blur of pain.
"I . . . I'm not sure.", I knew there was fear in my voice. I took a deep breath to calm down and felt pain surge through me. Looking down, it was then that I noticed the bandages over my chest, "I'm alive?"
Crystal didn't answer, instead she winced as she waved toward Carl, "I've only known them for a short time but I've never seen him act like he did after the surgery."
"He was here all night?", I watched as Crystal nodded.
"Yeah, the little cry baby couldn't get himself to move away from you."
I look to my right to see a medium sized teddy looking at me. It scratched its head, "Hi, I'm Vincent the bear."
I wasn't surprised. Nothing had been normal about me, and since being with these people the whole world seemed crazy, "Figures."
I turned to Crystal and frowned, "You look fine. I figured you would be in a bed like me."
Crystal frowned and seemed close to tears, "Well, all I had was a few bones pulled from their sockets. I was resting all night and seem fine now. It hurt though, she was moving my bones in and out of their sockets and pinching nerves."
I saw her shudder and then fall silent.
"So how long till I can get out of here?"
Vincent made no noise and Crystal looked out the window.
"Seriously, someone tell me." Deep inside I knew what they were going to say, but I had to hear it. I couldn't believe it until they said it to me.
"They tried to save you, but . . . "
"Oh suck it up and just tell her! She deserves to know.", Vincent yelled at Crystal.
I looked at Vincent, "What's going on?", my eyes were filling with tears. Something only the happy one would do, but I was so mad. It was unfair.
"Saba, you're dieing."

104: Sexual Tension and Family Values -Crystal-
"Now back to you." There had been no stop in the pain as Saba made the failed attempt at saving me. I still float there above the ground, screaming in agony as my bones did things they weren't supposed to. My clothes were drenched with sweat, vomit, and other bodily fluids better left not said because of my body’s attempt to stop the pain. I wasn't sure how I was awake.
"See, that is your fate. Nothing you do can stop the next few moments and even if you could, I'd just hunt you down.", evil clone Saba spread her hand out in front of her, looking at her fingernails, "I'd kill you, but I think it'd be more fun to let you squirm. I know that killing you wouldn't be fun, but playing with you first . . . Mmmm."
The unseen force pulled me close. Saba reached over and gently caressed my neck. She leaned her mouth near my ear and giggled, "I want your blood all over m- "
My body hit the ground hard, but the pain was nothing like what I had just endured. I felt my body being lifted by strong arms and when I looked, I saw Carl moments before my vision gave out.
That's when I finally learned my place.

103: Deoderant -Ben-
I leaped down the stairs two at a time not looking back. I heard my door burst open as Melissa came storming out in a rage. As I reached the bottom of the stairs, my mind was trying to find a good place to hide. I wasn't built to fight. I was built to think.
"You dirty weasel! Get back here!"
I ran in to the downstairs bathroom and slammed the door behind me. I heard her walking down the stairs as I frantically searched for a weapon. Plunger? No. She probably trained against melee. Lighter? Could be useful, but I'd need something else. There was a slam on the door as I grabbed a spray can from the cabinet.
She burst in to the room smiling wickedly, until she saw what I had prepared. Flames flew from the lighter toward her, catching on her clothes. Slapping at her clothes as she backed from the flames.
"Fire?! That's not exactly fair.", she was cornered, between me and a wall, "I'm not getting paid enough for this."
With that, she jumped through a nearby window and broke into a run. "I was only paid to get the book anyway. Killing you was a bonus."
Why was the book so important and who wanted it? When she was out of sight I glanced at the spray can in my hands. Axe Deodorant. Tossing the can in the bathroom sink, I stuffed the lighter in to my pocket and grabbed my coat. There was only one way to figure out what was so important about that book.
I had to go back to the house.
I had to see my parents.

Entry 102: Old Faces -John-
Patrick's air of control never left him as I followed him to his car.
"The team couldn't just consist of you and Jay, so I've called a couple of people who I'd think you'd get along with."
The car door in front of me opened and two familiar people stepped out.
"You guys?"
Timothy Dumont Jr. and Robert Owen stood in front of me with smiles on their faces.
Tim is a master of the internet. He can find any kind of information available and then some. I've known him for years and until Alex died, we were very close. After his death, Tim didn't think it was a good idea to get vengeance. He stayed behind and gives us help if we need it. Me and him got in to quite the fight because of Alex's death.
When Alex died I was only just getting to know Robby again . We had been close friends, but he suddenly stopped hanging out with all the guys. He'd tell us he'd be there and then just not show up. A week before Alex died he started to hang out again, but then I left to hunt and he stayed behind. He's the most scientifically adept of all of us, and he's always thinking of new inventions and scientific discoveries.
"Yeah, we were called soon after you called us with the Benjamin Case. He seems to have a good amount of resources and if he can bring Alex back . . . ", Tim fell silent.
Robby looked at Tim then at me and laughed, "Wait till you see the place we'll be staying at."

Entry 99: Learn Your Place -Crystal-
I started toward her in a run. The Saba-clone smiled and waved her hand toward me. I felt a force slam in to my shoulder but kept going. Pain coursed through me as I cut the distance between me and her degrading mouth.
It was almost like I knew what to do. I had gotten close enough but I didn't stop, not until she let loose another volley of what ever it was she was hurling at me. I fell back to the ground and slid.
"Just stay down. You're boring me. Only a few hits and it's over for you. Just lay back and let the darkness come." She was getting closer.
"I can't stand people like you. Goody-goodies who think it's the right thing to protect people you care about. Filling yourself with false thoughts of grandeur so that you can get the courage to stand against unimaginable odds."
I pulled myself to my hands and knees as she knelt in front of me.
"It's okay to realize you don't stand a chance. Just let the anger go and follow your fate. Don't be like that waste of space ove-"
A loud clap filled the area as my hand connected with her cheek.

Entry 98: Two Worlds, One Pain -Crystal-
As my body hit the ground, I felt sorry I had decided to come looking for Nick. Did I really need to find him? I didn't seem to have any other issues except the unusual intelligence that I've gained. I could have just stayed with the guys and been happy. I was happy there.
I couldn't stop myself from rolling in the wall surrounding the grounds. I looked over to Saba as she brought herself in to close quarters with the other Saba. The Saba I'd come here with was no better at fighting than I was, so when she was pushed back I wasn't surprised. Saba slammed in to the wall next to me and I could hear her groan as she slumped to the ground.
She and I came from two different worlds. I had been raised by my Father to be a good girl, she just wanted everything to die. Yet, here we are, both on the ground feeling as though we'd just been hit by a truck. Funny how it didn't matter what worlds we'd come from; the pain was the same.
"Do you both give up? Seems you both can't back up your words. Oh well, you'll be dead in a few minutes.", new Saba points at old Saba, "You for existing.", she points to me, "And you for helping a failure like her."
Why did that make me mad? Had me and the Saba I knew come to understand each other better? What ever the reason, I couldn't let her do that. I hated confrontation, but how could I stand by and let her insult Saba like that? Using the wall as a brace, I pulled myself to my feet.
"What? You're angry? You actually care for that waste of space?" The more she talked, the madder I got.
"JUST SHUT UP!"
Something in me had snapped and silence filled the yard.

Entry 97: P.B. -John-
So he thinks that he can tell us what to do, does he? He's got another thing coming. There's no way I'm going to be told what to do by him. I'd leave before I ever would be controlled by Ben.
The hospital wasn't far so I had walked, cursing Ben in my head for the whole time. We had helped him more than enough, and he gets mad just because a couple of zombies tore up his living room and made life difficult. No appreciation for our help. Well, screw him.
"Hey, I'm looking for a James Banks. Could you point me to his room?" The nurse behind the counter began looking at her files.
"I'm sorry, James Banks has been released from our care." She smiled at me sweetly.
"What?!", I must have yelled because I could tell she was visibly frightened. That didn't stop me from continuing though, "He's very dangerous, you need to tell me where he is. Who signed him out?"
"Umm, he did.", she points behind me.
He stood about five feet behind, looking at me with a smug smile on his face. Something about him caught me as off. He looked like any other person in his thirties, except his eyes told a different story. They had an ageless quality, like I was looking in the face of someone who was around for a long time.
His arms spread out, palms toward me, "Now isn't this a coincidence."

Entry 96: Needle in a Hay Stack -Jay-
I'm Banks. My feet hit the floor and I silently make my way toward the stairwell like a double-o spy. James Banks.
It didn't take me long to find this place, and it certainly didn't seem like the kind of place you'd find one of the most powerful people alive. I had done some checking on Nick and knew the kinds of power he supposedly controlled. Controlling souls, casting massive illus ional-distraction spells; Nick had done it all. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't scared. What this guy could do to me.
I slowly made my way in to the hallway of Nick’s room and smiled as I approached. I don't know why I was able to get this close, but I was damn lucky he hadn't flash-fried me when I walked in the door to the old folks home. The light from the moon from behind me splayed my shadow across Nick’s door. My hand gripped the handle of my new pistol and I opened the door.
The room was completely empty besides for some candles and dust on the floor. He was somewhere else. Some where in this building. I groaned as I thought about the five floors, 200 rooms each and two wings of equal size that he could be hiding in. He could have escaped but I doubt it. He's been here a very long time and I'm sure he wants to keep everyone safe.
Finding him would be like searching for a needles in a hay stack. A needle that could turn me into little, itty-bitty pieces of human flesh in seconds.
Oh joy.
